Conan to Fox?

Conan O'Brien's last show as host of the Tonight Show will be aired tonight. Could Conan land on the Fox network this year?

NEW YORK - Shortly before agreeing to the terms of his unpleasant exit from NBC , Conan O'Brien joked on " The Tonight Show " that his plans for next week include making a big move to Fox.

" Megan Fox ," he said to the laughter of fans who have made him a folk hero for losing his dream job.

A day after sealing his deal with NBC that gives O'Brien $45 million and allows Jay Leno to return to "The Tonight Show" throne, O'Brien airs his final show, with Will Ferrell , Tom Hanks, Neil Young and promised surprises.

Fox — the network — represents the most attractive landing for O'Brien if he wants to continue hosting a daily television talk show. CBS is comfortable with its late-night lineup of David Letterman and Craig Ferguson , ABC has expressed no interest in O'Brien, so Fox is the only one of the four big broadcast networks with room for the late late-night host. Fox has long sought its own late-night franchise.

Fox does seem to be the logical choice for Conan O'Brien for two reasons: they don't have a late night show and Fox attracts a younger audience than NBC or CBS.

It's Come To This: "Hit" Girl Trailer

Throughout history artists, writers, musicians and filmmakers have pushed the boundaries of social norms. Sometimes they have paid a huge price for their art, but most of the time, at least in modern times, they are celebrated as visionaries and pioneers.

I watched the trailer for "Kick Ass Hit Girl" on YouTube the other day and let's just say I was rendered speechless by it.

Warning: Strong language and extreme violence.

24: Season 8

The 8th season of 24 is about to begin (season premiere January 17 on Fox) and I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, 24 has been a kick-ass show with movie-like production values and compelling story lines. On the other hand, after 8 seasons there's a certain been-there-done-that aspect that's hard to ignore.

Last season, Fox and the characters from 24 promoted "green" initiatives like carbon neutrality and hybrid vehicles. After watching the last few seasons, I joked that they were recycling their story lines too.

And that's the problem. Every season, Jack Bauer is cast as the reluctant super agent who wants live a normal life in the suburbs with the woman he loves. In other words, Jack Bauer wants to be me. As Tony Almeida might say, "Yeah... alright Jack." Please.

But the terrorists are relentless and Jack is the only counter-terrorist agent in America who is tough enough, dedicated enough and "man" enough to save America.

Question: Why can't Jack Bauer simply be a guy who enjoys killing terrorists? I'm so tired of the soap opera-like plots involving Jack and his wife, Jack and Audrey, Jack and his daughter, Jack and his father, Jack and his brother, Jack and Renee, etc.

Enough already! Jack is a bad father and a bad lover. We get it. Jack should instead focus on killing terrorists and blowing stuff up because he's really, really good at that.

After watching the trailer for 24: Season 8 (below), I know what's coming. I know that Jack and Renee will hook up, that there will be a massive government conspiracy involving people that Jack trusts and that at some point, Renee will be captured or killed and that Jack will be the last man standing. And Fox knows that I will continue to tune in because 24 is still good television.

DirecTV Will Broadcast in 3D HD in 2010

HDGuru claims that DirecTV will begin broadcasting select programming in 3D HD in 2010.

DirecTV intends to launch the first US 3D HDTV channel early next year. The satellite TV provider plans to make the announcement at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on January 7th.

Tonight, DirecTV is scheduled to blast its latest satellite into orbit. The new bird gives DirecTV the capacity to add an all HD 3D channel, along with additional  HD  channels, though the technical specs of the broadcast are not yet clear. The new satellite goes fully operational in March 2010.  The new DirecTV 3D channel will feature an assortment of movies, sports and programs in 3D. All programs are in HD 3D and meet the new 3D standards the major TV manufacturers support, according to sources.

I am under whelmed. I've never been a fan of 3D movies and I am certainly not buying a new TV that supports 3D programming. Oh, and I am definitely NOT wearing those funky red and blue glasses either.

"Old Toy Trains"

Country singer Joe Nichols recorded the classic Roger Miller Christmas song "Old Toy Trains" and released it as a free download today. Nichols doesn't stray too far from the original recording and that's a good thing. It's a simple song and one that is perfectly suited to Nichols more traditional country voice.

You can listen to "Old Toy Trains" below or you can download the song directly by following this link.

Keith Urban Grants a Young Boy's Wish

From youtube.com

Keith Urban was performing his hit song "Kiss a Girl" when he invited 8-year old Matthew Pinkham on stage to play along side him (skip ahead to 3:05 to see Matthew's appearance on stage).

Matthew was diagnosed with a rare bone disorder when he was 4. He also made an appearance in Randy Houser's "Boots On" video earlier this year.
