Straw Man of the Year
Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 7:01PM Time magazine recently named Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke as "Person of the Year." Sure, Ben Bernanke helped "save" us from the housing crisis that he helped create, but I don't want to quibble with Time's selection. It's not like were any other compelling people out there this year, right?
Question... when an arsonist lights a house on fire and then saves the people inside, isn't he typically arrested for arson? Hmm... maybe that rule only applies to arsonists.
Scott Stanzel, who worked in the Bush White House as Deputy Assistant to the Senior Deputy Assistant Press Secretary (or something like that), nominates a far more interesting "person" than Mr. Bernanke...
The President's go to guyStraw Man should be the person of the year. He’s been employed by President Obama so much this year that he is certainly the busiest person in Washington. As the president has advocated his bloated stimulus package, his government intrusion into health care and his plans to return us to a pre-9/11 security mindset by treating terrorists as common criminals, Straw Man has provided the perfect foil for the president’s arguments. Straw Man deserves the Person of the Year recognition, particularly because he is rarely named. Most of the time he is referred to by his nicknames “some say” or “those who say.” Witness how busy Straw Man has been in 2009, as President Obama takes on his greatest hits...
