Did the Colts Kill their Mojo?

Cold. The body language says it all.Going into yesterday's game against the New York Jets (7-7), the Indianapolis Colts were only two victories from a perfect regular season, something that only two other teams in NFL history have accomplished.

With a sterling 14-0 record, they were assured of a bye week and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. There was only one thing left to play for in the regular season -- perfection. And they punted. Not the players but the coaches. Specifically coach Jim Caldwell and Colts president Bill Polian. In their eyes, perfection wasn't in their pre-season plans so they played it safe. After all, why risk an injury THREE weeks before their next meaningful game?

The Colts players... surely they agreed with Polian's decision, right? Riiiight.

In the 3rd quarter, with the Colts clinging to a 5 point lead, coach Caldwell pulled his starters from the game. It didn't take long for the Jets to exploit the Colts second string players and they quickly took the lead. The Colts players, including their star players (Manning, Wayne, Clark, Freeney, Mathis, etc.) stood on the sideline with their hands on their hips or their arms crossed, wondering what the hell was happening to their perfect season.

After the game Peyton Manning addressed the media and said all the right things. He supported the coach's decision, etc., etc. His body language said another thing entirely... "what the fuck was that?"

The Colts are a professional bunch. Perhaps they move on from this and win the Super Bowl. It's possible given their talent and home field advantage. But more than likely, the decision to play it safe will go down as one of the worst decisions in recent NFL history. If they fail to win the Super Bowl this season, people will look back to this game and say, that's where the Colts lost their mojo.

NFL Week 16 - Jaguars at Patriots

The Jacksonville Jaguars (7-7) will be in Foxboro, MA today to face the New England Patriots (9-5).

With a win today the Patriots will win the AFC East division for the 7th time in 8 years. They have been unbeatable at home this season with an impressive 7-0 record.

On the other side of the ball, the Jaguars desperately need a victory to keep their playoff chances alive.

The Patriots could be without two of their best run stoppers this afternoon. Vince Wilfork and Ty Warren are both listed as questionable this week. If they don't play, it could be a long day for the Patriots defense as they will have to find a way to stop the Jaguars star running back Maurice Jones-Drew.

This is a game the Patriots should win but as we've seen so far this season, anything is possible.

My prediction: Patriots 27 Jaguars 17

NFL Week 15 - Patriots at Bills

The New England Patriots (8-5) and the Buffalo Bills (5-8) are set to kickoff at 1pm this afternoon. If the Patriots (Line: NWE by 8) are to win this game, they will have to do so without starting defensive linemen Vince Wilfork and Ty Warren and offensive linemen Nick Kaczur and Stephen Neal. That hurts... a lot... especially on the road where they are a miserable 1-5 so far this season.

More on the Patriots injuries from NFL.com.

My prediction: Buffalo 24 New England 16

You Have No Idea...

You have no idea how much this bothers New England Patriots' fans. On the one hand, Tom Brady is Mr. Everything in New England. He's won 3 Super Bowls, 2 Super Bowl MVPs, a League MVP and he led the Patriots to a perfect 16-0 regular season in 2007 while throwing for a record 50 touchdown passes. He's also owns a .766 career winning percentage, the best in NFL history (minimum 90 starts).

BUT...

Tom Brady is a Yankees fan!
